From South Carolina to Colorado to South Carolina

“The moment she rolled up in her RAV4 with the windows down, music blaring, tousled hair, and that infectious ‘Who’s ready to celebrate?’—I was done for. I knew right then: something was about to begin.”

— Chase

“An unexpected spark—and then a slow, certain realization that this was not a fleeting wedding crush—I was falling in love.”

— Zibby

It all started at a mutual friend’s wedding in Hot Sulphur Springs, Colorado, because nothing breeds unpredictable romance like formalwear, altitude sickness, and an open bar (was it actually altitude sickness?). Chase was a groomsman, and Zibby, plot twist, was a grooms “wo”man. While they’d technically met in law school, neither expected to find themselves picking out a name for a puppy and for their future kiddos’ names.

At the wedding in Colorado, something sparked. Speculation has run rampant about whether it was the beautiful view, the mountain air, the open bar, or some combination of the three. Regardless, by the end of the weekend, they were inseparable and certain this wasn’t just a wedding crush.

There was only one small issue: 2,000 miles between them. When Zibby flew out to visit Chase in South Carolina for the first time, she missed her flight (her first missed flight ever), but come hell or high water, she was going to get there. Sprinting, sweating, and swearing through all three terminals at DIA, with a little help from Mom and Dad, Zibby found a new flight, and the rest is history.

Zibby, committed to her position as a public defender in Salida, Colorado, didn’t believe long-distance love was for her. So she told Chase, “If you’re serious, move here.” To everyone’s shock, he pulled into town about a month later.

And then…

Over the next year and a half, they built a life together: Chase started a small law practice, and Zibby kept fighting the good fight. The day after becoming dog parents to Bulleit, a mini-schnauzer, Chase proposed in mid-January amid sub-zero temps, solidifying the family unit. In July 2025, they moved to Florence, South Carolina, where Chase rejoined the camaraderie of a firm in his hometown and Zibby continued her passion for public defense.

They chose Fraser, Colorado, for their wedding because it’s where Chase first realized he was in love with Zibby—and it’s a place where everyone can share in the joy and the stunning scenery.
